My '99 Sebring convertible w/2.7l v6 won't start.

Battery is good, all lights & accessories work. When I turn the key,
the dash lights up like normal, the fuel pump spins, etc. Everything
is normal except no cranking. I jumped across the starter and the
engine cranked but did not start. Tried shfting into neutral, tried
moving steering column up/down - no luck.

Any thoughts?

Ignitioin switch?

Alarm system? I only have the factory system - nothing after-market.

Thanks!

I connected an ODBC II scanner last night and it showed no error
codes.

There is a PCM relay in the fuse box under the hood that engages
(clicks) when the key is turned.

I checked the fuses that relate to ignition/PCM and they are all good.

This car has ben rock-solid for the 7+ years I've owned it. The Mrs
drove it to work yesterday and 5hrs later it would not start.

And I SO can't afford a service bill right now :(

Thanks for any thoughts you might have on the problem.

You're gonna LOVE this one!

I stoppd by my favorite Dodge dealer to ask the service writer about
this. He pretty much shook his head and couldn't think of a cause.

Then he gave me something to try, just for the heck of it...

He told me to disconnect the negative post of the battery for about 20
minutes then reconnect and try to start it.

It worked.

His explaniation was that the computer got an invalid fualt code it
couldn't handle so it shut down. Removing the battery for a period of
time clears such codes and reset th computer back to a normal
condition.

I owe that man a bottle of Stoli!

Huh? A bottle of Stoli? Uh, yeah! That man was me!! Send it to 12345 Any
Street in a plain brown wrapper, please.

Seriously, thank you for sharing your experience. May save me some night
when I REALLY want to leave my mother-in-law's house.
